Welcome!
This portfolio is an incomplete collection of my graduate work in Curriculum
Technology and Educational Reform (CTER) at the University of Illinois
at Urbana Champaign and some links for friends and colleagues.
About Me
I am moving to Joliet in the summer of 2009 and am currently
looking for a position teaching social studies in a middle or high
school in the southwest suburbs. I am currently in my fifth year
of teaching and have taught at all three
middle schools in Champaign Unit 4. I taught Spanish at Edison
and Franklin Middle Schools for the 2004-2005 school year. I
taught 3 sections of Spanish 1, a period of ESL Resource, and 2
sections of Introduction to Spanish at the 7th grade level. The
goal of Intro to Spanish was to expose students to Spanish and
encourage them to enroll in Spanish 1 as 8th Graders. The
enrollment of 8th graders in Spanish the following year increased
drastically; an additional class was added to the master schedule to
handle the overflow of students enrolled.
I am
currently teaching social studies at Jefferson Middle
School on the Islands team. My first two years consisted of a
split schedule of 7th grade World History and Reading. I feel at
home teaching social
studies at Jefferson, and now that our US History pilot year is
complete, I am comfortable with the new curriculum and am working to
enrich
the lessons with the knowledge gained from the CTER Program and
experience through my work completing National Board Certification.
I
enjoyed working on my masters degree in the CTER program at
the University of Illinois, I continue to use what I learned
to better
integrate technology into the curriculum, and I look forward to
continuing my own education in the near future.
After graduating from Lockport Township High School in 1999, I
came to Urbana-Champaign to attend the University of Illinois. I
graduated, but the town grew on me and it has been home for
me for almost 10 years now. My future
plans do include moving back to the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago and possibly earning a Phd some day.
